Study in Canadian High Schools: Requirements for International Students

Are you considering your children studying in Canada? Here’s what you need to know about the requirements for international students to enroll in Canadian high schools:

Student Visa (Study Permit): International students must obtain a study permit (student visa) to study at a Canadian high school. This permit is issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Letter of Acceptance: Before applying for a study permit, students must first receive a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada. This letter confirms that the student has been accepted into a program at the school.

Proof of Financial Support: Students must demonstrate that they have enough funds to cover tuition fees, living expenses, and other costs associated with studying in Canada. This could include bank statements, scholarship letters, or sponsorship documents. For minor students, you are required to pay the full tuition fee for the first years of study in advance.

Language Proficiency: Depending on the language of instruction at the school, students may need to provide proof of English or French language proficiency. This could be demonstrated through standardized language test scores such as IELTS or TOEFL. However, for most of the high schools, you can provide a letter of completing language courses instead of an IELTS or TOEFL certificate.

Custodian Declaration (for Minors): If the student is under the age of 18 and will not be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in Canada, they must have a custodian who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. The custodian is responsible for the student’s welfare while they study in Canada.

If your children have no family such as an aunt, uncle or grandparents in Canada, we will introduce you to our trusted partner, Canada Homestay Network to fulfill the requirements for custodian and homestay with affordable prices.

Study Plan: Students may need to provide a statement or study plan outlining their intentions for studying in Canada, including their educational goals and how their program of study fits into their long-term plans.

By fulfilling these requirements and following the application process outlined by IRCC, international students can embark on an enriching educational journey in Canadian high schools.
